Last year, Spin Doctor Baseball experienced success as they took home hardware in most of their tournaments.

However, even more important than bringing home championships, player development is at a premium when playing with the Spin Doctors.

Former 11 year MLB player and Major League All Star, Steve Ontiveros, COACHES AND TRAINS all players in all aspects of the game. He brings a wealth of knowledge having played for one of baseballs all time greatest manager in Tony LaRussa. You will learn the intricacies of the game and advanced techniques that you will not learn from other club teams. You can check Steve out on his website: www.spindoctor.us

Spin Doctor Baseball has its own training center that will allow you to become the best you can be. 6 batting cages with pitching machines, 4 clay pitching mounds and two fields will help you improve as an individual and as a team. There are limited spots for the fall 14U team as they are only taking on 2 new players. The 13U team will have more roster spots available.

Tryouts will be held on Wednesday,

July 21 and 28 from 6:00 -7:30.

Tryouts will be held at Players Choice Academy located at:

Former University of Oklahoma Star, Stephanie Clark, will lead this class and help your child get on the right path for their baseball journey. Look for your child to learn all aspects of the game that his age group will experience. Stephanie attended the University of Oklahoma and studied Sports Science. She excelled in classes such as motor learning, kinesiology, exercise physiology and more. Steve Ontiveros, the founder of the Mighty Mites program, has worked exclusively with Stephanie to maintain the integrity of the skills that are being taught. She is, in fact, the only person that Steve would have the confidence and competence to run this class. Stephanie will utilize these skills and knowledge to help your child shine above the rest. She will implement drills that will challenge their eye/hand coordination, bi-lateral muscle movements and fundamental techniques that are essential for playing baseball. All of this is done in a fun and learning environment.

Learn the important aspects a young player should know:

Fielding

Hitting

Throwing

Base-running

Baseball Specific Motor Skill Drills

Take advantage of this tremendous learning opportunity as you set your child’s path to baseball greatness.

Steve attended high school in Niles-Brandywine, Michigan and South Bend-St. Joseph’s, Indiana where he was the starting shortstop and the ace of the rotation at age 16. With a 90-mph fastball and a perfected curveball, he was selected to play in the Indiana High School All-Star Game as a pitcher and third baseman.

During the summer, after his senior year, Steve attended an area-scouting combine held by the Cincinnati Reds. He was so impressive that he was asked to attend a second camp, where he threw before all of the scouts. It was during this performance that he impressed the head coach of the University of Michigan. Steve signed a letter of intent that day to play baseball at Michigan.

Steve went on to study sports medicine at the University of Michigan. It was here that he took pre-med courses in Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics, Kinesiology, and Exercise Physiology.

Steve became the cornerstone of the pitching staff at the University of Michigan posting the most wins, strikeouts, ERA, innings pitched and appearances record. In his first two years at the University of Michigan, his teams won two Big Ten titles and played in the College World Series. During Steve’s junior year, he was the Oakland A’s first selection of the 1982 June Amateur Draft.

Steve’s professional career started during the summer of 1982 and endured until the end of the 2001 season. He played for five Major League clubs: Oakland (six years), Philadelphia (three years), Anaheim (two years), and parts of two seasons with Seattle and Boston.

Career highlights:

A sensational rookie campaign where he was eight of eight in save opportunities and posted a 1.93 ERA, good for second in the league.

Being selected as American League Pitcher of the Month in June 1987, posting a 5-0 record and a 0.66 ERA. It was his first month as starting pitcher after 100 appearances in relief.

A member of the 1988 Oakland World Series team that fell to the Dodger’s in four games.

Being used as a pinch runner in pivotal games by manager Tony La Russa.

Winning the American League ERA Title with a 2.65 ERA besting Roger Clemens (2.87).

Being selected to the 1995 American League All-Star Game.

Carrying a no-hitter into the seventh inning, finishing with a one-hit shutout over the N.Y. Yankees.

During his career, Steve was highly skilled in the Art of Pitching, mastering seven different pitches and was gifted with the ability to teach these pitches.

Throughout Steve’s career, he has effectively utilized his skills in pitching, hitting, and fielding to become a valuable resource and mentor to the baseball community at large.

Grace was a 10th round draft pick for the Phillies in 1991 and began his career in Class A Batavia (NY/Penn), where he went 4-3, 1.67 ERA. An elbow injury in early 1992 almost ended his career, as he missed 2 full seasons after undergoing 4 surgical procedures.

Grace recovered and regained his earlier promising form in the 1995 season, going 15-6, 3.54 ERA for the class AA Reading Phillies. He won the Reading pitcher of the year award while helping his team win the Eastern League Championship. He made his Major League Debut that September, earning his first Major League win with a 1-0 victory over the LA Dodgers.

The 1996 season was bittersweet, as he started the year 6-0, only to have his All-Star bid fall short due to a sudden season ending shoulder injury on June 2nd. He was 7-2, 3.45 ERA at the time of the injury, including a complete game shutout vs. defending World Champion Atlanta Braves (6-0) on May 12th.

Although he managed to rehabilitate from his shoulder set back to return to action ’97, injuries finally took their toll on the right handed pitcher and ended his Major League career after the ’99 season. He went 16-16 with a 4.96 ERA over 4 seasons with the Phillies; a record that included 2 complete game shutouts.
